Choose the right sized condom

A friend called me on the eve of Christmas saying that she wanted to see my family doctor. I got the point from the anxiety in her voice and I was right. She miscalculated the safe period for sex and now, the pregnancy kit showed positive. She was married but she didn’t expect a baby to be on the way so soon.

So, there we were. On Christmas day, faced with a dilemma of whether the couple was ready for a baby and also, a certain amount of regret in not using protection. I thought the one week when she had to make the decision whether or not to keep the baby was most anxious for her, her husband and me.
I was left wondering after the whole episode whether it was worth all the trouble. Why would anybody want to be anxious about such a good thing as a pregnancy? Why can’t people just be careful and plan a family rather than make it a rather unwanted event?

My friend told me how she would always encourage her husband to make love without the condom. It somehow made her feel more satisfied. Later I felt that she was misled because probably, they never tried to experiment or even research.

There are so many different types of condoms in the market to choose from, even ones that make you last longer. However, while choosing condoms, one shouldn’t make the mistake of choosing oversized ones. Some men have large organs but they are definitely a minority. Most men have average-sized penises, which require small condoms to average-sized ones. It would be unwise for them to wear large condoms.

The average size of a condom is seven and a half inches long and two inches wide. Large condoms may just be larger by half an inch or one inch. But, now, there are condoms which are 10 inches in length.

Some studies have shown that women are more satisfied with small and average penises than with large ones. A close-fitting condom would give less discomfort and would feel natural as compared to one which leaves some space between. Also, an oversized condom increases the chances of leakage and slip-off.

It would be good if you and your partner did a little reading on the right sizes of condoms and also, explore the store and search for brands that you may not have tried. Most people ignore size when they buy condoms, looking more at the texture and other features. Mostly, it is not the length that causes trouble but the width. As the condom may be made of latex, it can be stretched to some extent during erection. But, it may be tight at the shaft or head. If this is the case, try going for a variety which gives more width at the ends.

If you think that sex without a condom is better, you may be wrong. Sex with a good fitting condom is just as good. You can be at ease knowing that you are protected from a pregnancy you don’t expect and also from sexually transmitted diseases.
