Bleeding hemorrhoids can take a day or two from a person's busy and demanding life. As an old proverb says, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; it should be worth knowing what causes these swollen veins around the anal area. Here are the causes:

  • Frequent constipation
  • Straining the bowel movement
  • Diarrhea when its frequent
  • Obesity or excessive weight
  • Childbirth/pregnancy
  • Lifting heavy-weight objects

Knowing the causes of hemorrhoids can help in its prevention. Pregnancy or childbirth can cause hemorrhoid but such cannot be prevented by all means. On other hand, causes of bleeding hemorrhoids can be prevented by:

  • Drinking lots of water. It is a general fact that a person needs to take eight glasses of water a day, a person that is genetically susceptible to hemorrhoids should take more than the usual eight glasses of water. This is to make the stool softer.
  • Eat foods that are rich in fiber. Fiber helps our body relieve constipation. It also helps fight obesity or excessive weight.
